A chat program allows for instant, real-time communication between students and the instructor. Events can be set up as "auditorium lectures" or free-for-all "roundtable" discussions. If you don't use accessible chat software, or turn on accessibility features, many students—including those who use 
assistive technology—could be prevented from joining the discussion.
There are two main techniques for creating accessible chats:
