A chat program allows for instant, real-time communication between students and the instructor. Events can be set up as "auditorium lectures" or free-for-all "roundtable" discussions. If you don't use accessible chat software, or turn on accessibility features, many students—including those who use Link opens in new window.assistive technology—could be prevented from joining the discussion.

There are two main techniques for creating accessible chats:

Accessible Chat Software
Chat software may create access barriers if it is not designed to be accessible.

Students with mobility impairments.Students who are blind.Students with low vision. Students with specific learning disabilities.

Chat Logs
Chat logs provide an alternate version of the content to students who are unable to participate.
