Adobe PDF Files

You can use Adobe Acrobat to create Portable Document Format (PDF) files, which look and print the same on a number of computer platforms. However, these files pose some accessibility challenges. The techniques in this section describe how to use Adobe Acrobat accessibility features to make your PDFs as accessible as possible.

There are two main techniques for creating accessible Adobe PDF files:

Accessible PDFs
Accessible PDFs are more likely to be understood by Link opens in new window.screen reader users.
Students who are blind.Students with low vision.
Text Versions
Text versions provide the content to students who cannot access PDF files.
