Building a Legacy of Educational Opportunities

UMUC began this seven-year drive on July 1, 2004, and it will continue until June 30, 2011. A successful campaign will help UMUC achieve its strategic vision as the leading global university, distinguished by the quality of education it provides, its commitment to students’ success, and the accessibility of its programs.

UMUC Foundation—501(c)(3) Status

The University of Maryland Foundation, Inc., doing business as the UMUC Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) corporation incorporated in 1978 and registered in the state of Maryland. The UMUC Foundation manages all private donations made to UMUC through the capital campaign, annual programs, and planned gifts.

UMUC graciously accepts all donations offered through charitable fundraising and grant fundraising initiatives and through individual gifts. Funds are used to maximize the number and extent of tuition grants and scholarship awards for students and to enhance UMUC’s educational services by adding and improving undergraduate and graduate-level curriculum and supporting materials.

“Building a Legacy of Educational Opportunities” is UMUC’s part of a system-wide fundraising effort for the University System of Maryland (USM). This special campaign seeks to

  • Make academic scholarships available to a greater number of students
  • Enhance cutting-edge technology
  • Maintain the high quality of current academic programs and develop new programs in emerging career fields
  • Add new faculty members with real-world experience
  • Acquire new labs and classrooms
  • Maintain the magnificent art collection that serves students, faculty, and the community

Opportunities Your Support Provides

Without some level of financial assistance, many working adults and military servicemembers would not be able to afford the college education they need to advance their careers and prosper in today’s highly competitive job market. That's why a large portion of the funds raised by the Capital Campaign has been earmarked for these UMUC scholarship programs:

  • School of Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Endowment
  • Graduate School Scholarship Endowment (School of Management & Technology)
  • Military Scholarships—Scholarships for America’s Heroes
  • Community College Transfer Scholarship Fund
  • Working Family Scholarship Fund
  • Better Opportunities Through Online Education (Lower-Income Workers)
  • Arts Program and Building Fund
