2007/2008 Faculty/Staff Campaign
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the UMUC Faculty/Staff Campaign?
Each year, faculty and staff are invited to lend philanthropic support to UMUC’s students, programs, and services. These contributions will provide an extra margin of excellence that allows us to perform our mission—providing a world-class university education to the focused adult learner, unrestrained by time or place.
2. Where will my contribution be used?
You decide. Whether you choose to designate your gift to the unrestricted fund (where the need is greatest), the UMUC Arts Program, or a scholarship program, your generosity can help UMUC gain extraordinary strength to reach its extraordinary goals.
Fund Descriptions
- Where The Need Is Greatest (Unrestricted Fund)
UMUC builds its world-class reputation by moving quickly whenever and wherever opportunities arise. Contributions to this unrestricted fund power our entrepreneurial spirit.
- The UMUC Arts Program
Whether it is the recently dedicated courtyard sculpture by renowned artist Phillip Ratner or one of the many works of art on display at the Inn and Conference Center, UMUC’s art collection has drawn great praise. This fund will help improve and conserve the university’s collection of fine art.
- Scholarship Programs
Scholarship funds ensure that a higher education is within everyone’s reach. They include:
- Community College Scholarship Fund
UMUC is strengthening its relationships with community colleges so that students can make smooth transitions from two-year institutions into bachelor’s degree programs. This scholarship helps cushion the “stickershock” of coming from less expensive community colleges to UMUC.
- School for Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Endowment
Most of our students must combine a full-time job with coursework. This fund allows working adults to acquire a new area of concentration in established or new fields of work and helps to alleviate their financial burden.
- Graduate School Scholarship Endowment
This fund focuses on students seeking graduate degrees, thus enabling them to advance their knowledge in their chosen fields or to advance to leadership positions.
- Better Opportunities through Online Education (BOTOE)
Contributions will provide scholarship support, a computer, and online access for each student as he or she earns one of six certificates offered in this program. This innovative program works to close the “digital divide” for students who are entering or seeking to advance in the workforce.
- Military Textbook Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund supports UMUC’s military students around by world by providing financial assistance to purchase textbooks. Preference will be given to students currently serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.
- Military Veteran Endowed Scholarship Fund
The fund is to financially support UMUC’s military veterans, their spouses, and their dependents by providing scholarships to take classes at UMUC.
- Adjunct Faculty Scholarship Fund
The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition for one course per academic year to any adjunct faculty member who has taught at least 30 credits at UMUC.
- Psychology Scholars Endowment Fund
The purpose of this Fund shall be to provide financial support to students enrolled at University of Maryland University College (UMUC) School of Undergraduate Studies. Awards shall be given to: students majoring in Psychology; who have completed nine (9) credits or more in Psychology at UMUC; who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who are not in their final semester; and, who demonstrate financial need.
- Working Family Scholarship Fund
To provide scholarship support to students currently enrolled at UMUC and working full-time with family commitments.
- Community College Scholarship Fund
