Arts Program Support Fund
The Maryland Artists Collection—the state’s largest collection of pieces by Maryland artists—comprises more than 300 works by Maryland painters, printmakers, photographers, and sculptors, including pieces by Gladys Goldstein, Herman Maril, and Selma Oppenheimer. Moreover, this collection serves as a permanent visual reminder of UMUC’s deeply planted roots in Maryland (as the state’s second largest university) and a springboard for the program’s Asian Collection, which exemplifies the university’s longstanding international connection. This unique exhibit incorporates more than 120 Japanese prints by such artists as Yoshitoshi Mori, who donated 20 original pieces, and an extensive collection of Chinese scroll paintings, ceramics, and sculptures from as early as the 16th century, thanks to gifts from the Chow and Li families. The UMUC Arts Program Support Fund will help maintain and expand these extraordinary collections.
Better Opportunities Through Online Education
UMUC continues to make a difference for hard-working students facing difficult financial challenges through its Better Opportunities Through Online Education program. In developing this unique program, UMUC called upon its extensive experience in online education to help lower income workers—those often stuck in “dead-end” jobs—increase their earning potential. Qualified participants receive a free personal computer (with a printer and Internet access), and a scholarship with which to complete an 18-credit professional certificate. Moreover, UMUC furnishes unlimited academic assistance, and partners with community-based organizations to provide ongoing mentoring services. For students who wish to continue their education, program courses are fully transferable as credits toward a four-year degree.
Community College Transfer Student Scholarship Fund
While community college is considered the stepping-stone to a four-year institution, there has traditionally been little or no coordination between the two. That’s why UMUC is cultivating strategic community college partnerships around the country. Students who graduate from any of our partner schools may now effortlessly transfer into any of UMUC’s many degree programs—without worrying about having the right prerequisites and being able to transfer credit. Our Community College Transfer Student Scholarship Fund assists students as they continue their progress toward upper-level degrees.
Graduate School of Management and Technology Scholarship Fund
Since 1978, UMUC’s Graduate School of Management and Technology has provided master’s degree programs that have helped thousands of students take their careers to new heights. Today, UMUC offers innovative master’s degree and certificate programs and a doctoral degree, all designed to meet the growing needs of adults in the workforce. UMUC offers master’s degree programs that include many industry-focused specializations, as well as accelerated executive master’s degree programs for students looking to achieve career advancement. The Graduate School of Management and Technology Scholarship Fund offers a wonderful opportunity to recognize the many accomplishments our graduate students have made along the way to becoming real-world leaders in their chosen fields.
Military Student Support Scholarship Fund
As the largest provider of post-secondary education to the military, UMUC continues to meet the diverse academic needs of our nation’s armed forces and their families. Military tuition benefits for active-duty military personnel do not provide funds for their family members, despite the rising cost of a college education. The Military Student Support Scholarship Fund plays an essential role in helping our soldiers, their spouses, and their children finance UMUC degrees. This year, we will also begin offering “carryover” scholarship assistance to military personnel leaving the service and transitioning into civilian life.
Military Textbooks Endowed Scholarship Fund
UMUC strives to provide its military students with all the resources they need to succeed. Since military benefits provide servicemembers with tuition assistance, but do not cover the cost of textbooks, the Military Textbook Endowed Scholarship Fund can help. This fund supports military students around the world by providing them with the funds to purchase their textbooks. Priority will be given to UMUC’s military students currently serving in Afghanistan and Iraq or other theatre of operation.
Military Veterans Endowed Scholarship Fund
UMUC is dedicated to meeting the needs of military veterans. The cost of earning a college degree continues to rise, and yet tuition benefits for military veterans remain the same, with no funds available to their family members. The Military Veterans Endowed Scholarship Fund supports military veterans and their dependents by providing them, their spouses, and their children with financial assistance so they can afford their UMUC degrees.
School of Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Fund
UMUC’s School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS) offers a wide spectrum of majors and minors in a host of highly marketable disciplines—and many of these degrees may be completed entirely online. UMUC has been dedicated to removing the financial burden for our students; yet, even with lower costs, employee tuition benefits, and other financial incentives, students often graduate with significant student loan debt, making repayment yet another expense to juggle. UMUC’s School of Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Fund makes it possible for our students to continue their education while balancing the demands of working and raising a family.
Working Family Scholarship Fund
As one of the largest public providers of online education in the nation, UMUC takes pride in providing educational opportunities to busy adult students. Because 50 percent of UMUC’s students must balance both work and family responsibilities, the Working Family Scholarship Fund was created to help meet their needs. This fund provides support to UMUC students working full-time—who also have full-time family commitments.
