Building a Legacy of Educational Opportunities: The Campaign for UMUC

Scholarships Funds

UMUC students represent a variety of backgrounds, and the university strives to provide scholarships to meet their needs. Through your financial support, you will be able to change the life of someone wishing to complete their higher education goals. Learn more about our various scholarships below.

Community College Transfer Program

While community college is considered the stepping-stone to a four-year institution, there has traditionally been little or no coordination between the two. That’s why UMUC is cultivating strategic community college partnerships around the country. Students who graduate from any of our partner schools may now effortlessly transfer into any of UMUC’s many degree programs—without worrying about having the right prerequisites and being able to transfer credit. Our Community College Transfer Student Scholarship Fund assists students as they continue their progress toward a four-year degree. Learn more about the Community College Transfer Program.

Military Spouse Scholarship Fund

As the largest provider of post-secondary education to the military, UMUC continues to meet the diverse academic needs of our nation’s armed forces and their families. While all active military servicemembers receive tuition assistance through the government, this military tuition assistance does not extend to spouses or college-age dependents, which has a dramatic impact on military family finances. Many spouses of junior enlisted personnel are working for financial reasons to make ends meet. Military spouses have difficulty in advancing their own careers due to frequent moves and lack of appropriate educational credentials. As a result, many military spouses are forced to put their education and careers on hold. UMUC provides military spouses with educational opportunities through UMUC’s online educational platform. The financial burden to military families for education costs can be overwhelming without supplemental financial assistance. A gift to the Military Spouse Scholarship Fund can truly make a difference in the lives of families who have sacrificed so much in service to our country. Military Veterans Scholarship Fund

UMUC is dedicated to meeting the needs of military veterans. The cost of earning a college degree continues to rise, and yet tuition benefits for military veterans remain the same, with no funds available to their family members. The Military Veterans Scholarship Fund supports military veterans and their dependents by providing them, their spouses, and their children with financial assistance so they can complete their higher education goals. Military Textbook Scholarship Fund

UMUC military students are located in bases around the world and are accessing our educational services either in an on-site environment or via the Internet. Although the cost of tuition is covered for active military personnel, the government’s tuition assistance does not cover the cost of textbooks, which increases substantially on an annual basis. Paying for textbooks presents a significant financial challenge to military students and often deters students from enrolling or continuing their studies. Your gift enables these military students to complete their educational goals as they serve our country and prepare themselves to be leaders in their communities and the world. School of Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Fund

UMUC’s School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS) offers a wide spectrum of majors and minors in a host of highly marketable disciplines—and many of these degrees may be completed entirely online. UMUC has been dedicated to eliminating the financial burden for its students; yet, even with lower tuition costs, employee tuition benefits, and other financial incentives, students often graduate with significant student loan debt, making repayment yet another expense for them to juggle. UMUC’s School of Undergraduate Studies Scholarship Fund makes it possible for our students to continue their education while balancing the demands of working and raising a family. Working Family Scholarship Fund

As one of the largest public providers of online education in the nation, UMUC takes pride in providing education opportunities to busy adult students. Because more than 50 percent of UMUC’s students must balance both work and family responsibilities, the Working Family Scholarship Fund was created to help meet their needs. This fund provides support to UMUC students working full-time—who also have full-time family commitments.
