Collecting African American Art

The University of Maryland University College in collaboration with the Collectors Club of Washington, D.C., Inc., and the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora, is pleased to announce a major exhibition of art "Holding our Own: Selections from the Collectors Club of Washington, D.C., Inc.". Represented in the exhibition are the works of forty-eight preeminent artists. The paintings, sculpture, drawings, and prints to be displayed were selected from ten outstanding private art collections in the Mid-Atlantic region. In conjunction with the exhibition a conference is planned. Collecting African American Art: Aesthetics, Methods and Marketplace is a day long event hosted by David C. Driskell Center that will be examining various aspects of art collecting and cultural identity.
