Useful Information Every Student Should Know

Service Indicators

In an effort to keep our students informed of specific statuses, UMUC may place positive or negative service indicator icons on your account.

  • The positive service indicators are for informational purposes only. They will update you on a specific status such as pending financial aid. 
  • In most cases, negative service indicators suppress services such as enrollment or the release of transcripts. 

Please Note: Additional service indicators used within other departments are not provided here.

Financial aid students will not be disenrolled from classes once we have determined that a student is receiving enough financial aid to cover their balance in full.

Mail sent to the address on file was returned to UMUC as undelivered to the sender.

  • Enrollment
  • Requesting/releasing an official transcript

Update the address we have on file by loggin into MyUMUC and selecting MyInfo.  Inform your academic advisor of the update.

negative service indicatorCOL – Account transferred collections

Payment was not collected by UMUC after several notifications to the student.  Balance has been transferred to the State Central Collection Unit (SCCU) for collection.

  • Enrollment
  • Application for graduation
  • Requesting/releasing an official transcript
  • Release of grades

You can contact SCCU to determine the balance due and to make payment in full at 410-767-1220 or
800-705-3493 or by visiting the Maryland . Department of Budget & Management Web site

After payment has been received by SCCU, please provide UMUC with a copy of your SCCU receipt indicating “Paid in Full” to restore your services.

It has been identified that you have a duplicate record within our system. 

  • Enrollment
  • Refunds
  • Requesting/releasing an official transcript

Please contact your academic advisor for resolution.

A check previously provided to us was returned as unpaid.

  • All check writing privileges

If there is a problem with a student's account or it is determined that the student is not eligible for the refund, a no refund hold may be applied to the account.

  • Refunds

Please contact the Office of Student Accounts at 800-888-UMUC (8682) opt. 2, to determine why your refund has not been released.

negative service indicatorODB – Overdue Balance

Student has an unpaid balance that has exceeded the due date.

  • Enrollment
  • Requesting/releasing a transcript
  • Application for graduation

Payment can be made online via credit card or check.  To make payment, please log in to MyUMUC and select My Finances > Finances > Make a Payment.

Perkins Exit interview is incomplete.

  • Release of diploma
  • Release of transcripts

Please contact Jean Measell at 800-888-UMUC (8682) opt.2 and request an exit interview.

Perkins loan is past due.

  • Enrollment
  • Release of diploma

Please contact Jean Measell at 800-888-UMUC opt.2 to determine how to make payment.

UMUC has written a small balance off. 

  • Enrollment

Please contact the Office of Student Accounts to determine the total balance due.  Payment must be made in full prior to the removal of this service indicator.
