Office of Career Services Mission and Staff

Mission

In support of the University's mission – the educational needs of the nontraditional student - the Office of Career Services provides quality resources and services to assist UMUC students and alumni worldwide with their career planning and job search needs.

From enrollment through graduation to the world of work, our programs and services are designed to reflect the evolving needs of UMUC's talented and diverse adult population.

Staff

Dr. Lisa Andrews, Ph.D. - Director

Lisa Andrews, director of Career Services, has over ten years of experience in the career development field. She received her PhD in higher education from the University of Arizona, her MS in counseling and human relations from Villanova University, and her BS in psychology from Elizabethtown College.

Formerly, Dr. Andrews was a director of career services at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She also worked in career development at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, and at the University of Arizona.

Her areas of expertise include career counseling, assessment, public speaking on a variety of career related topics, working with special populations, staff training and supervision, and budget management.

Katie Nailler - Assistant Director

Katie Nailler, assistant director, has over nine years of experience in career consulting and employer relations. Katie recieved both her Master of Science degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University. Her master's degree is in industrial relations and her bachelor's degree is in psychology.

Katie comes from both a university and business environment. Before joining UMUC, Katie worked for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development (CESD). CESD is a consulting firm affiliated with West Virginia University, and with CESD Katie specialized in human resources and career development. While under contract with the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Katie taught career development classes, planned job fairs and assisted in the employer relations of the College of Engineering. Katie was also under contract with various organization throughout the State of West Virginia where she assisted them in areas such as training and staffing.

Michelle Carroll, Career Advisor

Michelle Carroll has worked in the field of career development for more than fifteen years.  She received her MA in career development from John F. Kennedy University in Northern California and her BS in sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Michelle offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise gleaned from her experiences as an adult educator, corporate recruiter/job placement specialist, IT business administrator, and small business owner. She has developed and facilitated numerous workshops and taught college and continuing education courses, including: Career Planning, Job Search Methodology, Resume Writing, and Interviewing Techniques. Michelle has also provided career counseling and coaching to both adults and students in career transitions such as career changers, re-entries, and entrepreneurs.

Prior to accepting her current position at UMUC , Michele worked as a private consultant providing coaching and career development for a variety of populations.  Her areas of expertise include career counseling/coaching, administration and interpretation of career assessments, networking, resume coaching and job search strategies, and presentation and training in the areas of career development, leadership and team building.
