UMUC's undergraduate program in English produces graduates with demonstrated skills in literary analysis, critical thinking, and writing. These skills prepare you to excel in an array of careers areas including those in education, law, writing and publishing, journalism, public relations, business, and management. A degree in English can also prepare you for continued graduate or professional training in areas such as teaching and education, English, law, political science/government, public administration, psychology, counseling, communications, and religious studies.

If writing is your passion, you'll also hone your skills by creating papers in a variety of styles and across topics. In this program, you learn to write effectively and demonstrate superior understanding of the writing process and writing techniques. Your coursework can provide content for your freelance portfolio or your career in writing or editing. Additionally, a degree in English is an excellent way to develop written communications skills, which are vital in both business and creative fields.
