What Can I Do With a Major In…
Hopefully you are in a major that you enjoy studying. However, you may not be sure about how that major translates to a career. When matching a major with a career plan, you must realize that in many cases your degree may just be the first step in your ultimate career goal. In most cases you must pair your degree with years of experience to achieve the career goal and salary that you desire.
Below are links that will provide you information for different position titles and the major normally required to obtain that position. If you do not find information on your desired position, don't panic. Instead, please set up an appointment with Career Services and we can point you in the right direction.
Resources that can help:
- America's Career Info Net
- Mapping Your Future
- Occupational Information Network – O*Net Online
- Iseek
- College Board
SPECIAL NOTE – The information found in these databases is very abstract. Not all companies use the exact job titles listed in these databases and not all universities use the terminology for the majors in these databases, so your research should not stop at these databases and spreadsheets. If you are not finding the exact terminology that you are looking for then you must do further research to ensure that you are in the right major to achieve your career goals.
If you have additional questions or concerns and would like to speak with a career counselor regarding what you can do with your major, please fill out and submit our Talk to a Career Counselor form.
