Institute for Copyright Leadership & Management (ICLM)

Agenda

In 2008, the Center for Intellectual Property (CIP) has partnered with the National Leadership Institute (NLI) to bring to you a unique program that promises to meet the needs of many institutions struggling to better manage the changes in copyright law.

With 25 years experience and led by renowned faculty, NLI provides personalized attention, a range of proven assessment instruments, and highly regarded content founded on the most current leadership research. The CIP has become a trusted source of accessible professional development in the field of research and academic copyright management. Together these organizations are pleased to announce the 2008 Institute for Copyright Leadership & Management, which will be held May 28-30, in Adelphi Maryland. The deadline for early registration is April 29.

The Institute/Program Overview

Are you new to a management role, or are your duties beginning to focus more on issues that demand a better knowledge of copyright law? You can now begin to realize your potential and the potential of your institution in copyright leadership.

Leadership in copyright management requires several skills and competencies, both personal and technical: the ability to negotiate, manage from the bottom up, influence others, and the ability to build a cohesive mission on college campuses; it further requires a firm knowledge of rapid and longterm changes in copyright laws and policies. In sum, copyright management has in recent years effectively become change management.

"The Team Approach"

We invite institutions to assemble work groups of three representatives, one each from any of the following areas to attend ICLM for a special team rate of $2295: academic administration; general counsel; library; information technology; and faculty.

  • All of team must register at same time for discount; use "ICLM Team" as registration type
  • After entering all team members, enter discount code ICLMTeam on payment page

The Institute will help individuals or teams develop basic skills for effective leadership in copyright management while you focus on influencing skills and building strategic institutional partnerships and bridges. The Institute is an intensive program held on the campus of University of Maryland University College. The goal of the ICLM is to increase participants’ capacity for change management and to lead copyright initiatives on their campuses.

Participants will begin with an intensive change management skills session. Then for the next two and a half days, the cohort of institute participants will join a broader community of educators and immerse themselves in the exploration of copyright issues. On the third day, the institute cohort will have the opportunity to brainstorm in roundtable discussions to identify best practices. Finally, the institute cohort will meet to set direction and identify benchmarks they would like to achieve. (see agenda below for details.)
