The Virtual Academic Integrity Laboratory (VAIL) is a portal for students
to assist them in understanding academic integrity standards and avoid
accusations of plagiarism by learning proper documentation and research
methods. VAIL provides education and resources for students to enable them
to produce quality scholarship at their respective institutions.
VAIL is a dynamic resource that allows for feedback from patrons via
bulletin boards and chat rooms. These tools are available on the site so
that students may dialogue with each other and get expert help dealing
with academic integrity. Ultimately, VAIL is, as the name suggests, a laboratory—a
space where information and people interact to produce new ideas, methods,
and research.
Students should consult VAIL for tips on documentation, research development,
and understanding academic integrity concepts and policy information. VAIL
also includes an online tuorial, the VAIL Tutor. The tutorial consists
of four modules. Each module deals with the following:
-
Defining academic integrity, plagiarism and cheating;
-
Tips for avoiding plagiarism;
-
Teaching proper documentation practices and;
-
Providing information about academic integrity policies.
Students are assessed on the information learned via an online quiz, and
students will obtain a certificate of completion for the tutorial. The
VAIL Tutor is a convenient, simple way to learn academic integrity concepts
and approaches for avoiding plagiarism. |
