UMUC Commencement speaker

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Keynote speakers will offer reflections and congratulations to graduates of University of Maryland University College in May at three of the university's commencement ceremonies. Learn more about the elected officials who will address the graduates. Bios of the speakers can be found in the 2015 Commencement Program.

STUDENT SPEAKERS

As an eligible graduate, you're encouraged to apply to deliver the student speech at Commencement 2015. The speech is a UMUC tradition and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate your fellow graduates.

To qualify, you must have earned your degree in summer or fall 2014, winter 2015, or be scheduled to earn it in spring 2015. (If you are a spring graduation candidate, you must also be in good academic standing.)

The selected student speakers will

  • Prepare a five-minute speech that will inspire, motivate, and encourage everyone in attendance
  • Offer words of thanks to the faculty, family, and friends whose support has kept the graduates motivated and encouraged
  • Participate in pre-ceremony coaching sessions and a rehearsal on May 15

Each ceremony will have its own student speaker. The selected speakers will march in with the platform party and sit on stage during the ceremony. Student speakers also receive

  • Reserved seating for up to 10 guests
  • A reserved parking spot adjacent to the Xfinity Center
  • A complimentary photo with President Miyares and the keynote speaker

We are now accepting applications. Read this memo for instructions, and then click this link to submit your application.

SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

As an eligible graduate, you're invited to audition to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" and UMUC Alma Mater during either the doctoral commencement or the weekend ceremony. Those selected will make a memorable contribution to commencement. Eligibility criteria are the same ones listed above for prospective student speakers.

A minimum of one singer will be selected for each ceremony, but two may be chosen depending upon how well their vocal range fits each song. Both songs will be performed a cappella. The selected singers will march in with the platform party and sit on stage during the ceremony. Student singers also receive

  • Reserved seating for up to 10 guests
  • A reserved parking spot adjacent to the Xfinity Center
  • A complimentary photo with President Miyares and the keynote speaker
