Career Services at Work
"After attending the Virtual Job Search Strategies workshop Fall 2010, I am more confident in using social media in my job search. Before attending the event, I was hesitant to adopt social media for networking and job search purposes. One of the Career Services tips for leveraging social media was to select a lane when using media such as Facebook and Twitter. Since attending the event, I have created a LinkedIn account, elected to use my Facebook account for recreational purposes only and am now following employers on Twitter, which provides more real-time access to job leads and industry information."
—Kassidy Green, Master of Science, Management, Marketing Alumni '10
On the Library
"I have had several online chats at night with the library staff, and although I did not always know what I was searching for, the staff has been instrumental in helping me develop a targeted search and quickly retrieve materials and data essential for my research. I was also sent a transcript of the chat in case I have to reference it at a later time."

Advisors Help Students Discover Their Academic Interests
"I was excited about returning to school, but the thought of narrowing down a program became overwhelming. With the help of my academic advisor, I was able to explore options and select my graduate program."
—Chelbe Harris, Information Technology: Software Engineering, Graduate Student
Crossing the Finish Line Was Worth the Challenge
"This was a 10 year journey! I'm so proud of my accomplishments. It was not easy single handedly raising 3 kids, working a full-time demanding job, going to school in the evening, and helping my mom raise 2 beautiful nieces. When I look back on all of the years of sacrifice, I can now honestly say every challenging moment, every tear I cried because I thought I couldn't do it, and every party I had to forgo was worth it. I have inspired my son and daughter to pursue higher education to reach their dreams."
—Sabrina, BS Business Management, Alumni '09
Advisors Set UMUC Apart
"Attending UMUC has been an enlightening experience for me. Compared to my last school, here at UMUC the staff was personable and displayed a sincere interest in my successfully completing my degree. Mary Sikes, Academic Advisor at Dorsey Station, has been a tremendous asset to me. She goes above and beyond to assist all students, willing and ready to answer all my questions no matter the challenge, and consistently encourages and motivates me to keep going and striving for better results. Without the constant support and encouragement of my advisor, and the excellent classes offer at UMUC, I feel confident and prepared to embark on my next big adventure of pursuing a career in communications."
—Everee Sinclair, BA in Communication Studies 2011
