Opportunities to Get Involved in UMUC

Participate in Virtual Events

Virtual events are offered at least once a term to provide students with a way to meet and greet other students and connect with the UMUC community. One of the most innovative virtual events offered at UMUC is "Leveraging Social Media in Your Job Search Strategy" hosted by Career Services. The most recent event was offered April 4–8, 2011, during which current students had a chance to narrow their job search goals, share their experiences using social media while searching for employment, and get tips on the latest employment trends.

Join a Student Club or Organization

UMUC offers online academic clubs, honor societies, and professional societies for students. Online academic clubs are open to all students, while the honor societies and professional societies are open to students who meet specific academic requirements. All organizations are available for both face-to-face and online students. Student organizations are a great place to meet students who have similar interests, learn more about a career field or job opportunities, ask questions about programs or events, and more. Volunteer to Help Prospective and New Students

Students can also volunteer to share their stories with prospective students in an introductory course, UMUC 411. This free non-credit class allows students to test-drive the online learning system WebTycho and get experience working online before making the decision to attend UMUC. Since 2006, current students and alumni have supported UMUC 411 by sharing their experiences at UMUC and encouraging prospective students to pursue their academic dreams. To learn more, please complete the UMUC 411 Volunteer Form, and the Virtual Events team will contact you with more details.
