The U.S. Constitution and
Constitution Day

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

You probably recognize that Preamble to the Constitution. It is a familiar passage that reminds us of what makes the United States unique — the basis of our law and our rights as Americans.

The U.S. Constitution is more important than ever for us in these challenging times. We all need to understand and discuss it and its role in guaranteeing our justice and liberty. In this election year, we can turn to the Constitution to help us understand the "blessings of liberty" — our right to vote and choose the leaders of our country.

On this Constitution Day website, you will find resources to help you explain and teach the history and meaning of the Constitution. I hope you will find information and ideas to spark your interest, inspire you as a citizen, and lead you to even more learning and action.
