6. Co-op Information Session > Earn 3 or 6 Credits

Co-op credit is awarded for the planning and implementation of new on-the-job learning activities and the completion of the Co-op course requirements.

To earn 6 credits you must:

  • work at least 20 hours per week for 15 weeks (minimum of 300 hours) and
  • complete at least 5-8 substantial, new learning tasks in your position.

To earn 3 credits you must:

  • work at least 12 hours per week for 15 weeks (minimum of 180 hours) and
  • complete at least 4 substantial, new learning tasks in your position.

While a 15-week session is standard, we may be able to accommodate you if you have a special situation. For example, if you volunteer in the field of human resources management 6 hours a week, we might be able to extend the Co-op to 30 weeks so you could earn 3 credits. Please let us know of any special situation and we will try to work with you!

The credits you earn can be applied directly to your undergraduate degree. Check with your academic counselor to determine the placement of your Co-op credits.

Co-op credits do not replace any specific courses you need. For example, if you need to complete CMIS 140 for your degree, Co-op cannot fulfill that requirement.

If enrolling in Co-op will take you over 18 credits for the semester, you will need to request permission from your resource team to register for the additional credit. The approval process can take some time. Meet with your team before you begin the paperwork for Co-op. The approval is not automatic. We recommend that you do not exceed 18 credits.
