5. Co-op Information Session > Co-op Career and Job Development

If you are ready to transition to a new career or are currently engaged in a job search, now is the time to consider participating in the Co-op Job Development Seminar at UMUC. The seminar is designed to give you the tools to complete a targeted job search related to your academic discipline.

The Co-op Development Option is available only for students seeking the following degrees:

  • BioTech/Lab Management
  • Criminal Justice
  • Emergency Management
  • Gerontology
  • Homeland Security
  • Investigative Forensics
  • Legal Studies
  • Security Management
  • Security Operation

The Co-op Job Development Seminar is offered in two formats:

  • a face-to-face two-hour seminar in Adelphi, Maryland;
  • an online interactive seminar you can attend through WebTycho.

You can register for either seminar through our Web site. The seminar includes follow up with a Co-op counselor who will help you refine your resume and prepare you for a successful interview.

Although Co-op is not a job placement service, we will refer your résumé to employers as the opportunity arises. More importantly, we will give you the tools to conduct a successful job search on your own. If you are interested in the Co-op Job Development Seminar, you should make sure you plan for the time it takes to locate a new position, enroll, and complete your Co-op course before graduation.

Co-op Timeline
Ideally, you will enroll in Co-op within the first two weeks after you begin a new position. The Co-op course typically lasts 15 weeks.
