If you've graduated from University of Maryland University College, you could be eligible to earn up to $1,000 with the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship.1 Take the next step to further your education by pursuing a Master of Business Administration or one of three cybersecurity master's degrees at UMUC. Plus, if you are selected to receive the scholarship, we will waive your $50 application fee.

How to Earn This Scholarship

Alumni: Apply to UMUC in Three Easy Steps

  1. Complete the UMUC application for admission.2
  2. Send UMUC official transcripts for college coursework completed outside of UMUC. You do not need to complete this step for your previously completed UMUC coursework, if applicable.
  3. Talk to an admissions advisor if you have questions about the application process or need help selecting your MBA or cybersecurity courses.

Meet the Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship, you must

  • Have earned a degree or certificate from UMUC, conferred prior to January 1, 2018, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Meet the admissions requirements of the university
  • Take your first course in an eligible graduate program in the winter 2018 term

Deadlines

Apply to UMUC and register for your first course in one of the specified master's degree programs by the following dates to be eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship:

  • December 29, 2017: Online Sessions
  • January 2, 2018: Hybrid Sessions

Scholarship Details

Alumni Winter Term Scholarship funding is applied in the following increments:

  1. After you successfully complete your first course in the winter 2018 term
  2. During the term of your 13th credit
  3. During the term of your 25th credit

These are just two examples of possible outcomes. Your award amounts and the terms by which they are awarded will vary depending on the number of credits you transfer and the number of credits you earn per term. Learn more about graduate transfer credit.

Please Note: Withdrawal from all courses in a term in which the award is applied will result in the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship being canceled for that term. Your balance will be recalculated, and you will be responsible for any outstanding amounts. You will receive the scholarship in the next term in which you are eligible and enroll.

UMUC Europe and UMUC Asia Eligibility

UMUC Europe Eligibility

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, American employees of the U.S. Government, and their family members residing within an overseas contracted site in Europe or downrange are eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship if they meet the other scholarship eligibility criteria and register for one of the following master's degrees offered by UMUC Europe:

  • Master of Science in cybersecurity management and policy
  • Master of Science in digital forensics and cyber investigation

They are not eligible for the scholarship if registering for the Master of Business Administration or the Master of Science in cybersecurity technology offered by UMUC Europe.

UMUC Asia Eligibility

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, American employees of the U.S. Government, and their family members residing within an overseas contracted site in Asia are eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship if they meet the other scholarship eligibility criteria and register for one of the following master's degrees offered by UMUC Asia:

  • Master of Science in cybersecurity management and policy
  • Master of Science in cybersecurity technology
  • Master of Science in digital forensics and cyber investigation

They are not eligible for the scholarship if registering for the Master of Business Administration offered by UMUC Asia.

If you are not eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship, you could be eligible for other scholarships or financial aid at UMUC Europe or UMUC Asia.

I am a current UMUC graduate student. Am I eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship? +

If you are a current UMUC graduate student, you are not eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship. You still may qualify for other scholarships at UMUC.

I receive a tuition discount through the UMUC Federal Education and Development Program. Am I eligible for the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship? +

Receiving a tuition discount through the UMUC Federal Education and Development Program does not disqualify you from the Alumni Winter Term Scholarship. You can still qualify for the scholarship as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

1 The Alumni Winter Term Scholarship cannot be combined with any UMUC tuition discount except for the FED Program discount.
2 If you provide inaccurate or fraudulent information or documentation to UMUC during the admissions process, you may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the university's Code of Student Conduct. If you are found to be in violation of the Code of Student Conduct, your eligibility for scholarships may be terminated, and you will be charged the standard UMUC application fee, tuition, and fees retroactively and for the remainder of your enrollment based on the appropriate tuition category.
