Kathryn Klose

Graduate School of Management and Technology
Kathryn Klose is the associate program director for Financial Management and Accounting in the UMUC Graduate School of Management & Technology where she is responsible for the oversight of several financial management courses, the tutoring initiative, and is currently developing the UMUC Center for Resources in Financial Management and Accounting. In addition to her program management responsibilities, Kathryn has various teaching assignments in the Graduate School.
Prior to joining UMUC, Kathryn was the controller for a national software development firm headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She brings twenty-three years of practical experience in accounting and financial management to the UMUC program. As a licensed and practicing CPA, Kathryn offers expert accounting services to both individual and corporate clients in the public and private sectors. She particularly enjoys and has extensive experience in designing financial, internal control, and work flow systems that support business operations and emphasize the sharing of financial and other operating information enterprise-wide.
A life-long learner herself, Kathryn has always been actively involved in the training of accounting and financial management professionals in her workplace and through her affiliation with various professional associations. She has designed several seminars and training activities for accounting and finance personnel, intended to assist these individuals in the development of their technology, communications, customer service, project management, and leadership skills.
Kathryn's teaching philosophy emphasizes the student as a partner in the learning process. She strongly believes in engaging students in active learning that simulates real-world activities to help reinforce concepts introduced in the classroom and better prepare students for future success.
Holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Kutztown University (PA, 1980) and a Master of Science in financial management from UMUC (MD, 2001), Kathryn has taught in various public school systems. She is currently preparing for entry into a university program to pursue a PhD in finance and accounting education.
