Brief Statement About Instructor

Tana Bishop has considerable professional experience as an educator and director of nonprofit organizations. She gained much of her professional experience during the decade that she lived outside the continental United States in Spain, England, Iceland, Japan, and Hawaii. She has been with UMUC full-time for 15 years and has worked in the European Division as well as the home campus in Adelphi, Maryland. She served as the associate dean in the Graduate School for six years and returned to the faculty full-time in 2006 to focus on her passion — teaching and learning. Dr. Bishop serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Japanese studies, and she has a PhD in the economics of education. Her areas of specialization include intercultural communication and leadership and educational finance.
