Changes to CMIT 265 and CMIT 320

LabSim, a third-party tool in the IT education field, was introduced in selected sections of CMIT 265 Networking Essentials this fall. Based on positive student feedback, we will be expanding the use of LabSim in the Spring 2009 term. All online sections of CMIT 265 will use LabSim, as will section 7380 of CMIT 320 Network Security.

Two New Courses Go Online

In Spring 2009, two courses will be available online for the first time, one of them (CMIT 499S) using LabSim. CMIT 499S Advanced Network Security is our course that helps prepare for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam. CMIT 450 Designing Cisco Networks will also be going online, meeting the demand for an online sequel to the popular CMIT 350 Designing Cisco Devices.

Six Developments in the CMIT Curriculum:

  • CMIS 141 (Introductory Programming) is no longer required for CMIT majors.
  • CMIT 377 (Windows Directory Services Infrastructure) went online Spring 2007 and, technically speaking, the CMIT major can now be taken/completed entirely online.
  • Work on developing the online version of CMIT 376 (Windows Network Infrastructure) has begun. This new online course will be available to students by Mid-fall (October) 2007.
  • There is a special topics course, the "ethical hacker" course, which we have designated as CMIT 398E. It is currently offered only in f2f, usually at either Adelphi or Dorsey Station.
  • Wireless Network Administration, formerly CMIT 499W, is now a permanent course: CMIT 331.
  • Exchange Server, formerly CMIT 499M, is now a permanent course: CMIT 374.
