What is Podcasting?
Overview
UMUC provides podcasts for students who are enrolled in academic programs that use audio content. Students can subscribe to podcasts for free using Really Simple Syndication (RSS), which automatically delivers fresh audio content to the student's personal computer or mobile device.
What is Podcasting?
A podcast is an audio broadcast that has been converted to a format that your music player or computer can read.
Rather than providing a link to download an audio or media file, podcasting allows for files to be automatically downloaded. The advantage of this can be realized with media files that are frequently updated or if there is a need to distribute a large quantity of media to a select target audience.
You can easily subscribe to UMUC podcasts for FREE using an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed to receive the most up to date audio files.
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format that allows the syndication of lists of hyperlinks, along with other information or metadata, to help viewers decide whether or not they want to follow the link.
This allows your computer to fetch and understand the information, so that all of the lists you are interested in can be tracked and personalized for you.
What is an MP3?
An MP3 is a reduced compression audio format that produces CD-quality sound.
An MP3 is a digital music format that can be played on portable MP3 players and mobile devices, or on personal computers using programs such as:
- RealPlayer
- Windows Media Player
- Quicktime (available for free download)
