Recommended Software for Podcasting
Overview
There are many free podcast readers and aggregators available to you. They all have the basic capability to subscribe to an audio podcast feed that can be retrieved and played on a computer and/or MP3 device. Below you will find reader/aggregator recommendations for both PC and Mac computers. Once you have installed a podcast reader/aggregator, please refer to the step-by-step directions on How to Subscribe.
Note: UMUC is not able to support third-party software. However, each third-party software provides online documentation. We have provided links to the recommended online documentation for your convenience.
iTunes
iTunes is free software from Apple that can be used to listen to music and also to download and listen to podcasts. iTunes can be used with Apple’s iPod for easy synchronization of sound files. iTunes is one of the easiest applications to use for podcasting as it is both a subscription (feed) aggregator and a music player.

(If you plan to synch the podcasts to an MP3 player, please note that iTunes will only synch with Apple's iPod player.) - iTunes Help Documentation
Juice
Juice is a user-friendly desktop podcast feed aggregator that can be used in conjunction with your computer's default media player for immediate listening or synchronization to your MP3 player.
Google Reader is a free online podcast subscription reader/aggregator service. The reader has all the capabilities of the equivalent desktop application.
The main advantage of an online reader over the desktop equivalent is that it can be accessed from any computer once an account has been setup.
