Digital Rights Management and Emerging Technologies

Organizations

This section includes links to organizations with varying perspectives on Digital Rights Management and emerging technologies. Some are stakeholders in the debate favoring stronger copyright protection technologies and others supporting a loosening up of the field (open source movement, etc.). Some function as clearinghouses for additional information on the subject.

DRM: Discussions on Technology, Evolving Standards, and Evaluation

This section includes technical and popular articles explaining DRM and/or emerging technologies, including not only DRM but also SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model), encryption, etc.

Library-Related Concerns

This section included articles on particular library-related concerns with DRM and emerging technologies, including docster (a proposed peer-to-peer technology for document delivery), open source for libraries, the use of copyright clearance centers, problems with e-books, etc.

Support for Technological Protections

This section includes articles by or in support of strong technological measures for protection of copyrighted works. Some are straight from the viewpoint of the copyright industries, others are from law reviews supporting property rights.

Concerns over Negative Impact of Technological Protections

This section includes articles critical of DRM, mainly law review articles focusing on the impact of DRM on fair use, privacy, and shrinkage of the public domain.
