Faculty Training and Certification

CTL offers UMUC faculty members the following opportunity for developing and expanding their teaching and technical skills:

CTLA 201 (Teaching with WebTycho Training Course)

CTLA 201 is UMUC's award-winning baseline training course for faculty preparing to teach using the WebTycho course management system. The course is five weeks in length and is conducted entirely online. Sessions are offered throughout the year with an average of 20 faculty members in each course. All faculty wishing to teach online at UMUC must complete CTLA 201.

CTLA 201 offers an intensive preparation in the skills needed to teach online courses using WebTycho. During the course faculty in training participate first in the role of students, learning how to use the various features of the system, such as submitting assignments and working in study groups. They are then placed in the role of teachers, with other trainees assigned to their "class." For this portion of the training, trainees learn how to create assignments, manage online conferences, and provide student feedback. At the end of the training, trainees are evaluated on their attainment of a pre-established set of objectives and are certified upon successful fulfillment of these objectives.

Faculty considering enrolling in CTLA 201 should first be familiar with CTL's  Expectations for Participants of CTLA 201: Teaching with WebTycho and complete the Basic Computer Skills Tutorial.

You may enroll in CTLA 201 through the Teaching with WebTycho registration form.
