UMUC Fire Science Program

Fire Science site screen.Media: Multimedia CD-ROM and Web site

Description: Recruitment information used to increase interest and enrollments in the UMUC Fire Science Program. It describes the Fire Science program; presents video and text interviews with faculty and graduates; and provides application, transfer credit, and financial aid information. It also addresses common questions about online learning and presents examples of video resources used in actual UMUC courses. The initial roll-out of the CD-ROM and Web site led to a 25% increase in enrollments, and the National Fire Academy authorized the funding of thousands of additional copies to be sent throughout the United States and overseas.

Client: UMUC Fire Science Program; National Fire Academy

Services provided: The CVU recommended a design that could be effectively developed both on the Web and on CD-ROM. It then coordinated production, including multimedia development (graphics and programming), audio and video development (actor contracting, recording, editing, encoding, and transcript development), and quality control and testing. It also designed the CD-ROM packaging, created a CD-ROM master, and coordinated duplication by an external contractor.
