The standards for accreditation are developed by the membership and approved by the Commission. However, some of these standards exist because of federal requirements. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education sets its standards above the minimum federal and state requirements, expecting and encouraging institutions to improve their effectiveness and to work continuously toward the highest possible level of educational excellence.
