Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education
The standards for accreditation are developed by the membership and approved by the
Commission. However, some of these standards exist because of federal requirements. For
the full text of the booklet explaining each of the standards, order a copy of Characteristics of Excellence
in Higher Education. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education sets its
standards above the minimum federal and state requirements, expecting and encouraging
institutions to improve their effectiveness and to work continuously toward the highest
possible level of educational excellence.
