The Office of Evaluation, Research, and Grants (OERG), a unit of the Office of Distance Education and Lifelong Learning (ODELL) of the University of Maryland University College has developed this UMUC Assessment Resource Center (UMUC-ARC). The purpose in establishing the Center is to provide the faculty, administrators, and students with anytime, anywhere access to helpful information, archived materials, and direct linkages to assessment tools, field-tested assessment strategies, a forum to interact with assessment experts, and much more.

The UMUC-ARC Web resources on assessment of teaching and learning outcomes can help you answer questions about assessment, such as:

  • What can I do to find out if my students are learning?
  • How do I know if my teaching methods are effective?
  • What is driving the recent emphasis on assessing student learning outcomes?
  • What sites can I visit to learn about what others in my field are doing about assessing student learning outcomes?

Here you'll find information about why and how to conduct assessment, as well as examples and models of assessment from several higher education institutions.
