Animated Graphics

Moderate rating

Animated graphics are graphics that can be made to move in a rapid or slow sequence of images. In animated graphics, either a fixed image moves from one point to another on the screen or the image gives the impression of motion.

Examples of Uses Advertisement banners, icons, cartoons, demonstrations of concepts

Requirements for Using it on a Computer Animated graphics should run in any recent browser with a 28.8 bps or better modem connection. If they are large (over 10K) they may take some time to load—something to bear in mind if they are to be used for instructional purposes.

Requirements for Using it to Create Materials If you already know the basics of HTML, simple animated graphics are relatively easy to produce and embed in Web pages. (A Web tutorial from California State University, Chico simplifies the process for creating animated graphics; for more extended guidance, see the resources offered by the Animated Gif Artists Guild.) However, more complex animated graphics that can be manipulated to demonstrate concepts will require expertise in CGI scripting and in designing interactive forms.
