Databases are collections of data. Usually, databases can be searched or users can devise other kinds of queries or projections to test the data and produce outcomes. Databases are sometimes used to create pages dynamically and ease site updates.

Examples of Uses Search engines, digital asset management systems (such as MrSID maps and Artesia Technologies), demographic tools (see the U.S. Census Bureau), survey tools (see Zoomerang)

Requirements for Using it on a Computer Since many databases are the outcome of complex programming routines, it is advisable to access them with a high-end computer (Pentium-class PC or Macintosh PowerPC) and a fast connection to the Internet (T1 or better) with Netscape or Internet Explorer 4.0+.

Requirements for Using it to Create Materials
CGI access and programming experience; and/or Oracle database server or similar server
Advanced programmer with CGI experience; database administrator (if Oracle/other server is used)
