PowerPoint

Easy rating

PowerPoint refers to Microsoft PowerPoint slides. Many faculty accustomed to preparing lectures and other materials in PowerPoint now store them on Web servers where they can be downloaded easily through Web browsers.

Examples of Uses Lectures, overviews, demonstrations, presentations, conference papers

Requirements for Using it on a Computer Any computer with a connection to the Internet and Netscape or Internet Explorer 3.0+ can access Web-based PowerPoint files.

Requirements for Using it to Create Materials You must have Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer or on the network if your computer is connected to one. It is advisable to have a high-end computer (Pentium-class PC or Macintosh PowerPC) and a reasonably fast connection to the Internet (28.8 bps or better). You will need space on a Web server where your PowerPoint (.ppt) files will be stored and downloaded, as well as a file-uploading program like WS_FTP. Proficiency in creating Microsoft PowerPoint slides helps, though this can be acquired over time through familiarity with the program's many features.
