Welcome to the Office of Diversity Initiatives

Welcome to University of Maryland University College’s (UMUC) Office of Diversity Initiatives. We hope you'll find this site to be informative and useful in understanding diversity, learning how UMUC “embraces the world,” and obtaining information about various diversity activities in the coming year.

The office was established in April, 2000. Our mission is to promote diversity and human relations through the collaborative efforts of a Diversity Council composed of staff and faculty from UMUC Adelphi, UMUC-Asia, and UMUC-Europe.

Members of the Diversity Council are volunteers. Their efforts to promote diversity programs over the last year have been quite successful. Their successes include the commemoration of African American Heritage Month and Irish American Heritage Month.

The Office of Diversity Initiatives is also responsible for ensuring compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) policies. We assist all university departments and divisions in resolving affirmative action, EEO, and ADA issues that may interfere with productivity and human relations in the workplace, and we work toward ensuring that the university employs and retains a diverse workforce.
