Submissions Closed

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Alma Mater Challenge. The entry period is now closed.

We received an overwhelming response to the challenge. The entries will be judged by a panel selected from UMUC faculty, administration and other members of the university community. Please check back in February to review the finalists’ entries and cast your vote for UMUC's Alma Mater.

You could write our school song!

After nearly 65 years, it's about time UMUC had its very own school song—and you could be the one who writes it. Entries will be accepted November 1 through November 30, 2011. So have fun! Get creative! This is your chance to write a song that will be sung by thousands!

Here's everything you need to know.

Be sure to capture the spirit of UMUC. Remember that UMUC has a unique mission and culture. We are proud to bring learning to our students, and we serve a global community of more than 92,000 students, both online and on-site. So your lyrics must reflect those qualities.

It’s easy to enter. Beginning November 1, 2011, simply send us your lyrics as a Word document, PDF or text file. You may also paste your lyrics into the entry form. Multiple entries are allowed.

alma_mater_chal_guitarYou’re welcome to perform your song. If you want to share a video or audio recording of your song, you can post it to the Internet (e.g., YouTube), and then send us the link. (Please do not send us the multimedia file.)

Please note that judges will not be evaluating vocal talent or presentation quality—only the lyrics will be considered.

All submissions must be original.

Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

Entries will be judged by a panel selected from the UMUC faculty, administration and other members of the university community. A group of finalists will be chosen in January 2012. Finalists’ lyrics will be posted on our Web site in February, where members of the UMUC community will vote for their favorite.

We look forward to reading—and hearing—your entries.
