About the Alma Mater Challenge

UMUC launched the Alma Mater Challenge on November 1, 2011, inviting members of the entire UMUC community to submit original lyrics for the university's first-ever school song. The response to the challenge was overwhelming. Once all entries were in, a panel of judges—selected from UMUC faculty, administration, and other members of the university community—was asked to choose five finalists whose lyrics best reflected UMUC's unique mission, culture and goal of serving more than 92,000 students online and on-site in communities around the world. The finalists' lyrics were then posted online where the UMUC community could vote for their favorite.
