Constitution Day 2007

The University of Maryland University College celebrates its global reach in many ways. For Constitution Day 2007, the Office of Diversity Initiatives and the Department of History chose a global theme to celebrate our college and the US Constitution.

The program that evolved unified students, staff, and faculty in reading the Preamble, the Bill of Rights, as well as the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. We see the values espoused in the Constitution alive in the readings. As you will see, the words spoken by our amazing group of volunteers touched the very core of their lives. This is a project that comes from the heart.

Many of the participants were not born in the United States. Because of that, some elected to read in English while others in their first language and others wore national costumes. This is but another reminder of UMUC’s global reach; it resides in our people as well as our college.

We hope you enjoy the following video. The participants started as a disparate group and became a family. It is with great joy and pride that we present your friends in a tribute to the enduring document that gives us the freedoms we all enjoy.
