About the Film

From June 27-28 in 1969, the gay movement gained national attention during New York City’s riots at the Stonewall Inn. Members of the GLBT community fought back against the police who consistently raided the club. Before Stonewall uses archival film footage of the time period, as well as movie clips and personal interviews to reconstruct an audiovisual history of the GLBT community before the Stonewall riots. The documentary serves as a means to honor the struggles and achievements of the GLBT community leading up to the riots, and the establishment of the GLBT community in the United States.
