UMUC Accreditation Information
The University of Maryland University College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, one of the six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. UMUC is governed by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents and approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Department of Education's Professional Education Unit
UMUC's Graduate School Department of Education has a professional education unit of two Master's programs: The Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and the Masters of Education in Instructional Technology (MEd). Both programs are approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The MAT is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education as a professional education program leading to state teacher certification.
The Professional Education Unit has applied for candidacy with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) option with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
