Department of Education
The Graduate School’s Department of Education has three master’s degree programs currently: Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT), Masters of Education in Instructional Technology (MEd), and Master of Distance Education and E-learning (MDE). A recent addition to the Department is the new Center for Intellectual Property Certificate (CIPC) program.
Two of the programs (Master of Arts in Teaching and MEd in Instructional Technology) constitute, for CAEP/NCATE purposes, the professional education unit. These two programs prepare professional educators for roles in K-12 schools.

Professional Education Unit
Because UMUC is preparing teachers for state certification, the department’s professional education unit is subject to reporting requirements from numerous external organizations to meet numerous state, national, and federal reporting, approval, and accreditation requirements.
