Sequencing Assignments - Faculty Resources
It’s a good idea to “sequence” assignments—to have each writing assignment build on the one before. In this way students are encouraged to revise and rethink their writing and will produce better work as a result.
Tips for incorporating "sequencing" into your curriculum
- Include “versions” (i.e., revisions) of the present writing assignment as part of the next writing assignment.
- Start by “packing” a complex writing task as a series of smaller tasks. “Unpacking” the subtasks helps students understand the larger task.
