How to Avoid Plagiarism: Eight Guidelines to Help You Avoid Plagiarism

On the next several screens, we’ll discuss eight basic guidelines that will help you avoid common quotation and citing errors.

We’ve divided the guidelines into two major groups:

• I–IV: Guidelines to help you avoid quotation errors
• V–VIII: Guidelines to help you avoid paraphrasing and summarizing errors

All of the examples in this section use APA style.

We’ll ask you questions throughout this part of the module. Don’t worry—they aren’t part of the final quiz, and we’re not recording your score. It’s just a chance for you to see what you already know about avoiding plagiarism.
