Writing Advising

Scheduling Face-to-Face Writing Advising (Undergraduates Only)

UMUC undergraduate students can receive on-site tutoring from the University of Maryland, College Park's Writing Center, located in Room 0125 of Taliaferro Hall on the UMCP campus. For online advising, please e-mail the EWC.

NOTE: The UMCP Writing Center is a contracted service for UMUC undergraduate students and is separate from UMUC's Effective Writing Center (EWC). The EWC does not train or supervise UMCP writing advisors.

    • Hours of Operation
      Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
      Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
      Monday-Wednesday 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (walk-in only)

    • Making an Appointment
      To be assured of seeing a consultant during daytime hours, call ahead for an appointment: 301-405-3785. Evening hours are walk-in only; consultants work with students on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • UMCP Grammar Hotline

    • The UMCP Writing Center also has a Grammar Hotline for quick answers to questions about word choice, punctuation, sentence structure, or proper citation. Call the Grammar Hotline at 301-405-3787 during Writing Center hours. (See Hours of Operation.)
