Autobiography

Since 2009 Julie Hill has been Professor and Director, Public Relations Program, Graduate School, UMUC. Previously she was director of public affairs, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. She also was Director of Corporate Communications for the city of Charlotte. Her degrees are:

  • M.S., Theatre Arts Management, Bowling Green State University, Ohio, 1983
  • B.S., Theatre Arts Management, Emerson College, Boston, Massachusetts, 1982

Nomination Essay

Dr. Hill's background in communications and public affairs have facilitated her communications and strategic planning skills. Her academic background, including the Senior Executive Institute, University of Virginia, the Leadership Charlotte, and the Senior Management Institute for Policing, Boston University enable her to effectively work as a team member and emerging leader at UMUC. She will bring a new perspective to the FAC and be able to work with other FAC members in facilitating and carrying out its mission. During her tenure at UMUC she has participated in a number of efforts to improve student learning within her program and she has advocated in department and faculty meetings for more transparency in management decisions and participation by faculty in them. She would be a strong addition to the FAC.
