Nomination Essay

I am nominating Rick Menking because I believe that he is a dedicated educator who has a good understanding of the struggles of the nontraditional student, having been one several times. I know he has experienced the opportunities and challenges of distance learning as he has both taught and taken many online courses. He will be teaching his six and seventh courses for UMUC this fall. He also has a good understanding of intercultural challenges having travelled extensively, visiting all 50 states in the US, and most of the provinces in Canada in addition to many trips to Europe, Asia, and Africa. In addition, he has lived in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Korea, and Viet Nam. Rick is also personally familiar with the challenges our military and government students face as he is a retired USAF officer. I am convinced that with his vast professional, administrative, management, and educational knowledge and experiences he will make an excellent member of the Faculty Advisory Committee.
