Announcing New Faculty Service—

UMUC E-Mail Addresses for Stateside Adjuncts

UMUC is pleased to announce that all stateside adjunct faculty members will be assigned a standard UMUC e-mail address (e.g., johndoe@faculty.umuc.edu) by December 4, 2009, to enable them to communicate more easily with university administrators and students.

These new accounts will be designated as the official university e-mail addresses for all faculty members. Effective, January 4, 2010, faculty will receive all university-related communications at their UMUC e-mail address. Such communications may include notifications regarding appointment documents, official notices and updates from academic and program directors, and other university-issued messages.

Faculty members will not be required to use this e-mail account in their classes (although they are highly encouraged to do so) until the beginning of the summer 2010 session. They should also be aware that they will not be able to automatically forward mail sent to the UMUC-assigned e-mail account to a separate e-mail account (e.g., yahoo.com); this is prohibited by university policy as well as by system restrictions.

Faculty members should find a number of benefits to using the new e-mail addresses. The accounts create a sense of identity for UMUC faculty members and make them more easily identifiable by students. They also establish a secure method of communicating with students and administrators. In addition, all adjunct faculty members will now have e-mail accounts supported by the university’s Office of Information Technology through 360 Support, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, via self-help, phone, and chat. Once the new account is available, faculty members will receive e-mail notification and instructions on accessing the account and contacting technical support.
