UMUC is accepting scholarship applications now for the 2009-2010 academic year. Don't wait—scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
These scholarships are available thanks to the tremendous generosity of an anonymous donor, who has made it possible for UMUC to help more students realize their educational goals and dreams. How much can I receive?
Recipients may be awarded $1,000/year ($500 for fall, $500 for spring). In order to accommodate the non-credit UCSP 611 course required in the first semester for graduate students, only 3 credits are required for the first semester. The first semester award will be $250. $500 will be disbursed for the subsequent fall and spring semesters when you enroll for at least 6 credits.
Can I use the scholarship for the summer semester?
The Community College Staff Scholarship is only disbursed for the fall and spring semesters. Students who plan to take classes in the summer semester should plan to budget accordingly. There are no summer disbursements.
When will I be awarded the scholarship?
Students who submit complete scholarship packets will be awarded immediately. Scholarship awards will post to a student's account 10 days before the start of the semester. If you are registered for Term II or mid-fall/spring classes, your award will post 10 days before the start of the class.
Can I be awarded the scholarship with a 2.9 GPA?
No, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from all college coursework.
Can I receive multiple scholarships from UMUC?
No, you may only accept one scholarship from UMUC. You can receive additional financial aid opportunities from grants, loans and external scholarship sponsors.
Can I renew my scholarship?
Yes. Recipients may renew their awards for three years based on completion of all scholarship guidelines and criteria.
Can I receive the scholarship for graduate study?
Yes, the scholarship may be used for undergraduate or graduate coursework.
Can I receive the scholarship if I am no longer employed by the community college?
Unfortunately, no. Recipients of the Community College Staff Scholarship must maintain their employment in order to be eligible.
I am a current UMUC student. Does this scholarship apply to me?
No, this scholarship is for students new to UMUC. As a returning student, you may be eligible for many scholarships that UMUC offers to current students. See additional scholarships.
I would like to take classes at another institution while still enrolled at UMUC. Will my scholarship be affected?
Students who wish to take classes at an outside institution must first gain permission from their advisor. Classes taken outside of UMUC may apply to your degree requirements but will not be used as part of the minimum credit requirement for the scholarship.
