The Fund for Veterans’ Education Scholarships Funding
Award amount: varies
Application Deadline: October 15, 2008

The Fund for Veterans’ Education was established to provide scholarships to veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan or Iraq since September 11, 2001 and who are now enrolled in college or vocational-technical school.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a veteran of any branch of the Armed Forces.
  • Have served and been deployed for a total of at least 60 days in Afghanistan or Iraq after September 11, 2001 (or served in the surrounding area and have documented service in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom), or be a veteran who was deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq after September 11, 2001, but did not meet the 60-day active service period as a result of a service-related injury or condition incurred while serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.
  • Must be enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate program of study at any accredited two-year or four-year institution, public or private, including technical schools for the fall 2008 term.

Must have applied for federal, state and institutional need-based grants and all available military educational benefits.

The Gates Millennium Scholars

The goal of The Gates Millennium Scholars is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be an African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Has attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or has earned a GED
  • Will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall 2009
  • Has demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities
  • Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be of Hispanic descent
  • Must be a high school senior, undergraduate or graduate college student
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, obtained passport stamped I-55I
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must plan to enroll FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the 2008-2009 academic year
  • Must have applied for federal financial aid

Kids' Chance of Maryland

Kids' Chance provides an opportunity for children to pursue their education, reach their goals, and fulfill their dreams for the future.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • Current high school seniors, and degree-seeking undergraduates and graduate students
  • Children who have had a parent permanently or catastrophically injured or killed in an employment-related accident compensable under the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Children must be a Maryland resident between the ages of 16 and 25.
  • All majors are welcome

P.E.O. PROGRAM FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION
Award Amount: $1,500 to $2,000

A woman is eligible to apply for a grant from the P.E.O. program for continuing education provided she:

  • Is sponsored by a P.E.O. Chapter
  • Is a citizen of the United States or Canada
  • Has had at least 24 consecutive months as a non-student sometime in her adult life
