News Updates and Briefs Heeger Inducted into International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame
UMUC President Gerald Heeger was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame March 31, 2005, in a black-tie ceremony at the Boston Marriott Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts. Heeger was one of 10 inductees in 2005 chosen for their distinguished contributions to the field of adult and continuing education. He received a medallion and commemorative plaque and earns a permanent listing in the hall of fame, both online and in its physical home in the Thurman J. White Forum Building of the University of Oklahoma’s Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education, Norman, Oklahoma. Heeger’s entry in the hall of fame praises him for “his creativity in partnering higher education with corporations and for innovation in program development” and for providing leadership that “has enabled thousands of students worldwide to achieve their educational goals.” It recognizes UMUC as “one of the leading continuing education institutions in the world, providing educational opportunities for United States military service members in programs in more than 60 countries.” Heeger is not UMUC’s first inductee into the hall of fame. He joins former UMUC Dean and Chancellor William Raymond “Ray” Ehrensberger, inducted posthumously in 2004, former President Benjamin Massey, and others.
