News Updates and Briefs Together We Stand: Images from the Opening More than 100 art enthusiasts and autograph-seekers crowded the Lower Level Gallery for the opening of an exhibit of works by UMUC's own Clyne Cunningham on February 1, 2002. Marilyn Maupin Hart, director of Special Programs, said, "I can't think of a more fitting way to celebrate the beginning of African American Heritage Month than by showcasing Clyne Cunningham's artistic celebration of contemporary and historical black figures."
ODELL Compiles Database of Faculty and Staff Publications UMUC's Office of Distance Education and Lifelong Learning (ODELL) has a Web page, entitled "Faculty and Staff Research," that is dedicated to listing recent faculty and staff publications, including books, monographs, articles, dissertations, and published proceedings. This list is updated annually. Please send information regarding all UMUC faculty and staff materials published within the past five years to lolson@umuc.edu. The deadline is March 28, 2002. Include your name; degree; title; alma mater; contact information (preferably e-mail address); a brief, one- or two-sentence bio listing relevant professional affiliations; and a photo, if possible. We will also need an abstract of your work, information regarding its publication status (in progress, already published, and reference information as appropriate), and a link to the actual work if it is accessible online. SchWeber Receives Fulbright to Israel Claudine SchWeber, UMUC associate provost, Distance Education and Lifelong Learning, received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant to Meital-Inter-University Center for E-Learning at Tel Aviv University in Israel. SchWeber left February 9, 2002, and spent two weeks leading a series of training and instructional workshops on distance education and technology-enhanced teaching at universities in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa. She also took part in Meital's annual conference on online learning, held February 12, 2002, at the Technionthe Israeli Technological Institutewhere she gave the keynote address and particpated in a discussion panel. SchWeber is among the first grantees under the new Fulbright Senior Specialists short-term grants program. The new program offers two- to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions in 140 countries around the world.
